Authenticated worker crash via unvalidated tool schemas
Published May 30, 2025 · Updated May 30, 2025
Improper input validation in vLLM 0.8.0 through 0.8.x allows remote authenticated users to crash inference workers via malformed tool schemas. When xgrammar rejects an invalid schema, the backend falls back without another validation check and passes malformed pattern or type values to native grammar compilers. Access to an authenticated chat endpoint with tools enabled is required; a single request leaves the worker down until restart.
