Application crash via repeated XCF layer properties
Published May 27, 2025 · Updated Jul 27, 2026
Use-after-free in GIMP before 3.0.0 allows attackers to crash the application by inducing a user to open a crafted XCF image file. The XCF loader accepts repeated active-layer property records, releases the previously selected layer, and later dereferences the stale layer pointer. Exploitation requires user interaction with an attacker-supplied file; memory corruption can also expose or alter data in the GIMP process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
