Account compromise via lax JSON content-type validation
Published May 23, 2025 · Updated May 23, 2025
CSRF in StrangeBee TheHive allows remote attackers to submit privileged requests through a lured basic-authenticated user’s browser. Affected JSON endpoints accept browser-submittable requests without requiring application/json, so ambient Basic Authentication credentials authorize forged state changes. Basic Authentication must be enabled and a privileged user must visit attacker-controlled content; forged requests can change passwords or increase account privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=5.2.0 <5.2.16
- Affected versionversion=5.3.0 <5.3.11
- Affected versionversion=5.4.0 <5.4.10
