Local file truncation via unchecked read modes

Improper access control in Android 14 through 16 allows local users with read-only ContentProvider access to truncate shared files. ContentProvider.Transport forwards openFile and openAssetFile mode strings containing truncation or append flags after checking only for read access. A local app needs access to a provider URI, but no user interaction is required; successful exploitation can destroy file contents rather than grant code execution.
