Local privilege escalation via caller identity confusion
Published Sep 4, 2025 · Updated Feb 26, 2026
Permission bypass in Android 13 through 16 allows local users to escalate privileges through the CredentialStorage activity. CredentialStorage trusts Activity.getCallingPackage(), which does not always identify the app that actually launched the activity. Low-privileged local access is required, but no user interaction or additional execution privilege is needed to cross the permission boundary.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
