Remote code execution via oversized RECV argument
Published May 18, 2025 · Updated May 19, 2025
Buffer overflow in the RECV handler in FreeFloat FTP Server 1.0 allows remote attackers to execute code via a crafted FTP command. The handler accepts an oversized RECV argument, and the published exploit reaches the saved return address after 246 bytes to redirect execution. A network connection and anonymous FTP login exchange are sufficient; successful exploitation controls the server process, while malformed payloads can crash it.
