Account takeover via mass-assigned password changes
Published May 30, 2025 · Updated May 30, 2025
Mass assignment in FreeScout before 1.8.180 allows remote authenticated users to take over other accounts through profile editing. The profile update flow accepts the password field through User::fill(), whose fillable list includes password without excluding it from ordinary edits. PERM_EDIT_USERS or a mailbox-management permission for the target identifier is required, after which the changed password grants the target account's access.
