Unauthorized mailbox access via unchecked mute request
Published May 29, 2025 · Updated May 29, 2025
Incorrect authorization in FreeScout before 1.8.179 allows remote attackers to gain unauthorized mailbox access via a crafted Ajax request. The MailboxesController ajax mute branch trusts mailbox_id, attaches the current user when no relationship exists, and saves notification settings without checking view permission. The network request requires a mailbox identifier; successful exploitation adds mailbox access and changes notification state without interrupting the service.
