Contributor-level code execution via shortcode eval
Published Jun 9, 2025 · Updated Apr 28, 2026
Code injection in MetalpriceAPI 1.1.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users with Contributor access to execute PHP code. The shortcode() function in metalpriceapi.php substitutes the shortcode operation attribute into a PHP assignment and passes the result directly to eval(). Contributor-level post editing is sufficient to run arbitrary server-side PHP when WordPress renders the crafted shortcode, enabling site takeover.
