CVE-2025-48074Public exploit

Denial of service via unbounded dataWindow values

Published Aug 1, 2025 · Updated Aug 1, 2025

Denial of service in Academy Software Foundation OpenEXR 3.3.2 allows attackers to crash or stall applications via a crafted EXR file. The readScanline() loop in ImfCheckFile.cpp trusts arbitrary dataWindow Y bounds, while EnvmapImage::resize passes unbounded X and Y sizes into Array2D::resizeEraseUnsafe, causing excessive iteration or allocation. Exploitation requires an application or user to process the file and affects availability through a crash, memory exhaustion, or prolonged stall.
