Application crash via unallocated sample-buffer write
Published Jul 31, 2025 · Updated Jul 31, 2025
NULL pointer dereference in OpenEXR 3.3.2 allows context-dependent attackers to crash an application via a crafted deep scanline image. The ScanLineProcess::run_fill function writes fillValue through a null destination because reduceMemory skips allocating sample data when the declared sample count exceeds its memory threshold. Exploitation requires an application to process the image with reduceMemory enabled, and the bounded consequence is an application crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
