Process crash via premature busboy listener removal
Published May 19, 2025 · Updated May 20, 2025
Uncaught exception handling in Multer 1.4.4-lts.1 through 1.4.5-lts.2 allows remote attackers to crash Node.js applications. In makeMiddleware, cleanup removes every busboy listener before a malformed multipart stream emits its second error, leaving that event unhandled. An unauthenticated request must reach an Express upload route using affected middleware; the resulting exception terminates the hosting Node.js process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
