Contract side-effect omission via zero-length slice
Published May 15, 2025 · Updated May 15, 2025
Incorrect code generation in Vyper 0.4.2rc1 and earlier allows remote attackers to skip intended state changes in affected contracts. The compiler permits zero-length slice() calls on msg.data or address.code, then make_byte_array_copier skips evaluating a side-effecting start expression. Exploitation requires a deployed contract compiled from this uncommon source pattern, and the omitted operation can leave contract state unchanged.
