Contributor-level stored XSS via unescaped data-caption
Published Jan 6, 2026 · Updated Jan 6, 2026
Stored XSS in Averta Phlox 2.17.7 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through the data-caption attribute. The theme emits contributor-controlled caption content into the HTML data-caption attribute without sufficient sanitization or attribute escaping, so the stored value becomes executable page markup. Contributor-level access or higher is required to plant the payload, which runs in the browser whenever a user opens the affected page.
