Credential disclosure via cleartext firmware-upgrade traffic
Published Sep 18, 2025 · Updated Sep 19, 2025
Cleartext credential transmission in Cognex In-Sight 5.x through 6.5.1 allows attackers to retrieve user credentials. During firmware upgrades, In-Sight Explorer sends user-privileged credentials over the proprietary camera protocol without transport protection. An unauthenticated attacker must be on the same network segment and wait for an upgrade exchange, exposing credentials without directly changing camera state.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
