CVE-2025-47436

Memory corruption via oversized LZO decompression copy

Published May 14, 2025 · Updated May 14, 2025

Heap buffer overflow in affected Apache ORC C++ releases allows local users to corrupt memory with a malformed LZO-compressed file. The LZO decompressor allocates a 250-byte heap buffer and then copies 295 bytes into it because it does not sufficiently validate the input boundary. Affected releases are 1.8.8 and earlier, 1.9.0 through 1.9.5, 2.0.0 through 2.0.4, and 2.1.0 through 2.1.1; a consuming process must read the attacker-supplied file.
