Local SYSTEM code execution via writable extraction path
Published Jul 8, 2025 · Updated Jul 24, 2025
Uncontrolled search path in Caphyon Advanced Installer before 22.5 allows local users to execute arbitrary code as SYSTEM. The EXE bootstrapper resolves the SYSTEM account's AppDataFolder to C:\appdata and extracts an embedded MSI beneath that standard-user-writable path. Exploitation requires a resource-bearing EXE package to run as SYSTEM after a local user plants a targeted binary, yielding SYSTEM code execution.
