Authenticated privilege escalation via unchecked API permissions
Published May 6, 2025 · Updated May 7, 2025
Improper privilege management in Crestron Automate VX 5.6.8161.21536 through 6.4.0.49 allows remote authenticated users to escalate privileges. The network API executes commands without applying the requesting user's configured permissions, so restricted accounts can invoke commands beyond their assigned role. A valid account and network access to the API are required; successful use grants unauthorized control over API-exposed functions.
