Seed-cluster takeover via copied secret metadata
Published May 19, 2025 · Updated May 20, 2025
Privilege escalation in affected Gardener gardenlet releases allows remote authenticated users to control hosting seed clusters. PrepareReferencedResourcesForSeedCopy preserved attacker-controlled labels and annotations when copying project Secrets into shoot control-plane namespaces on seeds. Administrative access to a Gardener project and use of gardener-extension-provider-gcp are required; exploitation grants control of the hosting seed cluster.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
