Link following in Microsoft Edge Update before 1.3.195.61 allows local users with low privileges to elevate privileges. The updater fails to prevent a filesystem link from resolving to an unintended resource before file access; Microsoft has not disclosed the affected file-handling locus or exact operation. A local low-privileged account and no user interaction are required, and successful exploitation crosses a security boundary to compromise confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
