File overwrite via Tcl argument injection
Published Jul 10, 2025 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
Argument injection in Git GUI allows context-dependent attackers to create or overwrite writable files through a crafted repository path. Git GUI passes repository-controlled path arguments beginning with Tcl redirection or pipeline metacharacters to open and exec without neutralization. Exploitation requires a user to clone an untrusted repository and edit a file in a maliciously named directory; writes are limited to files that user can modify.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
