CVE-2025-46818

Cross-user code execution via mutable Lua metatables

Published Oct 3, 2025 · Updated Oct 3, 2025

Code injection in Redis 8.2.1 and earlier allows local users to execute attacker-controlled Lua code in another user's context. The Lua sandbox leaves basic-type metatables mutable and exposes deprecated newproxy, setfenv, and getfenv APIs, allowing shared interpreter state to be altered. Exploitation requires authenticated access to EVAL or FUNCTION and subsequent interaction by another user, with resulting unauthorized code execution and access in that user's context.
