Privileged code execution via json_cli buffer overflow
Published Nov 18, 2025 · Updated Nov 18, 2025
Classic buffer overflow in Fortinet FortiExtender json_cli allows local users with administrative access to execute arbitrary code. The json_cli component copies attacker-controlled CLI input into a destination buffer without verifying that the input fits. Exploitation requires high-privileged local access and a high-complexity crafted command, and successful exploitation runs code in the appliance context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=7.0.0 <=7.0.5
