File disclosure and crashes via unsafe XML parsing
Published May 5, 2025 · Updated May 5, 2025
XXE injection in Langroid before 0.53.4 allows remote attackers to read local files or crash LLM applications via crafted XML. XMLToolMessage.extract_field_values passes the supplied string to lxml.etree.fromstring with a default XMLParser that resolves entities and permits DTD processing. Any LLM application that routes attacker-controlled XML into this class exposes readable host files and can exhaust memory through quadratic entity expansion.
