Security-warning bypass via dropped Mark-of-the-Web
Published Apr 26, 2025 · Updated Oct 24, 2025
Mark-of-the-Web bypass in IZArc 4.5 and earlier allows remote attackers to suppress security warnings through a crafted archive. During extraction, the archive handler fails to copy the source archive's Zone.Identifier metadata to extracted files, so Windows treats them as local. Exploitation requires a user to download, open, and extract a marked archive and then launch its content; the CVE is disputed over whether propagation is an appropriate control.
