Administrator takeover via stored XSS in HTML uploads
Published May 5, 2025 · Updated May 5, 2025
Stored XSS in Open WebUI before 0.6.6 allows remote authenticated users to compromise an administrator through an uploaded HTML file. The files API accepts JavaScript-bearing HTML and serves it as executable HTML without restricting that rendering to administrator-uploaded files. Under default access controls, an administrator must open the attacker's link; execution grants account control and enables chained backend code execution through Functions.
