Stored XSS via raw HTML events
Published Apr 30, 2025 · Updated Apr 30, 2025
Stored XSS in XWiki Contrib's XWiki Markdown Syntax 8.2 through 8.8 allows remote authenticated users to run JavaScript in visitors' browsers. HTMLNodeVisitor sends flexmark HTML nodes to XWiki's rendering listener as raw HTML events, bypassing the HTML macro's security checks. Any user who can save a Markdown document or comment can plant the payload; execution requires another user to view it, and an administrator or programming-rights victim exposes the entire installation.
