Local root escalation via Crash Reporter race
Published May 26, 2026 · Updated May 26, 2026
Local privilege escalation in Apple macOS before 15.7 and before 26 allows local users to gain root privileges through Crash Reporter. Crash Reporter contains a race condition, but Apple has not disclosed the raced resources or the validation sequence that permits privilege elevation. Execution of an app on an affected Mac is required; successful exploitation gives that app root-level authority on the host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
