SYSTEM privilege escalation via named-pipe impersonation
Published Jun 30, 2025 · Updated Jun 30, 2025
Privilege escalation in Honor PC Manager 16.0.0.118 allows local users to execute processes as SYSTEM through the iMateBookAssistant pipe. Several SYSTEM services connect as clients without ensuring that the pipe server is trusted, allowing an attacker-controlled server to impersonate a client and duplicate its token. Exploitation requires SeImpersonatePrivilege and winning control of the single pipe instance before the legitimate server, potentially after interrupting that server process.
