Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via unrestricted role update
Published Jun 10, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Privilege escalation in InspiryThemes RealHomes 4.4.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to grant themselves Administrator access. The inspiry_update_profile() function passes the submitted realhomes_user_role value to set_role() without restricting the requested role. Subscriber-level access is sufficient, but the vulnerable path is reachable only when “Show user role option in profile” is enabled, which is disabled by default.
