Cloud account compromise via overbroad Lambda permissions
Published May 22, 2025 · Updated May 22, 2025
Privilege escalation in Lumigo measure-cold-start 1.4.1 allows remote authenticated users to compromise an AWS customer account. The deployed Loop Lambda role grants lambda:UpdateFunctionConfiguration and lambda:InvokeFunction on all resources, enabling a cross-account layer to run in the function. An AWS principal able to use those role permissions can attach a malicious public layer, invoke Loop, and obtain its execution-role credentials.
