Sandboxed script execution via embedded PDF JavaScript
Published May 7, 2025 · Updated May 9, 2025
Stored XSS in Wagtail CMS 6.4.1 allows remote authenticated users to run PDF JavaScript when another user opens a document. The document library accepts a PDF containing JavaScript and serves it inline, causing the browser's PDF viewer to execute the embedded code. Wagtail disputes any security impact because major browsers isolate PDF JavaScript from cookies, storage, and the network, while external storage behavior depends on site configuration.
