Application crash via unbounded album-year input
Published May 10, 2025 · Updated May 12, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Code Projects Album Management System 1.0 allows local users to crash the application via album search input. The searchalbum function passes an attacker-controlled year string to scanf("%s", year) without a width limit, overflowing a 20-byte stack buffer. A local low-privilege session and interaction with the Search Albums menu are required; the proof of concept demonstrates a crash, while the documented corruption can overwrite control-flow data.
