Unauthenticated service crash via recursive expression parsing
Published Apr 10, 2026 · Updated Apr 10, 2026
Stack overflow in OwnTone Server commit 2ca10d9 allows remote attackers to crash the service via a deeply nested HTTP search expression. The /api/search expression parser recursively evaluates nested time_add calls without enforcing a nesting limit, exhausting the process stack. The documented request reaches the network service without authentication and terminates the server, limiting the demonstrated consequence to service interruption.
