Subscriber-level defacement via unchecked image assignment
Published May 30, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Improper access control in Krasen Slavov Featured Image Plus 1.6.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to alter any post's featured image. The fip_save_attach_featured function accepts a post and attachment selection without checking whether the caller can edit the targeted post. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to overwrite featured-image assignments, enabling content defacement without broader post-editing rights.
