Arbitrary SMM code execution via SMI stack overflow
Published Jul 30, 2025 · Updated Aug 14, 2025
Stack overflow in InsydeH2O SetupAutomationSmm allows privileged local attackers to execute arbitrary code in System Management Mode. The overflow occurs in an SMI handler, but Insyde has not disclosed the triggering SMI input, destination stack buffer, or missing bounds operation. Exploitation requires privileged local access to invoke the handler and grants code execution within SMM, where firmware and protected memory can be altered.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
