CVE-2025-4423

SMM code execution via unchecked RDI pointer

Published Jul 30, 2025 · Updated Aug 14, 2025

Memory corruption in InsydeH2O's SetupAutomationSmm before L05.05.40.011803.172079 allows local users to execute code in SMM. Callback0F treats the saved RDI register as a pointer without validating that it lies outside SMRAM, then writes fixed data and copied variable content through that attacker-controlled address. Kernel-level privileges are required; successful exploitation crosses from ring 0 into ring -2 and can corrupt SMRAM or install persistent firmware code.
