Unauthenticated file read via encoded path traversal
Published Jul 9, 2025 · Updated Jul 9, 2025
Path traversal in White Star Software Protop 4.4.2-2024-11-27 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary server files through /pt3upd/. The endpoint accepts encoded ../ sequences and resolves the resulting path outside its intended directory without enforcing containment. No authentication or user interaction is required; exposure permits reading files accessible to the Protop service, while write access is not established.
