Domain administrator escalation via canonical-name collision
Published Jun 17, 2025 · Updated Jun 30, 2026
Privilege escalation in FreeIPA before 4.12.4 allows remote authenticated users to gain domain administrator access via Kerberos. The directory permits a controlled service to reuse admin@REALM as its krbCanonicalName because uniqueness is not enforced for the predefined admin account. Exploitation requires principal-alias creation privileges and enables forged administrative identity at LDAP, exposing or altering realm data.
