Privilege escalation via writable DLL search path
Published Apr 22, 2025 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
DLL search-order hijacking in DPMA DPMAdirektPro 4.1.5 allows local users to execute code with the application's privileges. The bundled Java runtime searches its user-writable C:\DPMAdirekt\client\jre\jre21\bin directory for a missing profapi.dll and loads an attacker-supplied replacement. A low-privileged user must place the DLL locally and wait for another user to reopen the application; the payload then runs in that application's security context.
