CVE-2025-43863Network attack vector

Password brute force via unthrottled change attempts

Published Jun 12, 2025 · Updated Jun 12, 2025

CWE-307 in the password-change endpoint in vantage6 before 4.11.0 allows remote authenticated users to brute-force the current password. The PATCH handler calls user.check_password directly, returning a distinct error for each wrong current_password without invoking the login-attempt counter and lockout path. A valid authenticated session is required; repeated guesses can recover the account password for reuse outside that session.
