Browser script execution via unescaped backURL
Published Aug 19, 2025 · Updated Aug 19, 2025
Reflected XSS in Liferay Portal and DXP allows remote authenticated users to inject JavaScript through a crafted JournalPortlet request. In edit_article.jsp, the cancel link places the attacker-controlled backURL in its href without applying PortalUtil.escapeRedirect. Affected releases are Portal 7.4.3.132 and DXP 2025.Q1.0 through 2025.Q1.15 and 2025.Q2.0 through 2025.Q2.8; a signed-in user must open the crafted URL, which executes script in that user's browser under the portal origin.
