Client-side admin menu exposure via response tampering
Published Jul 25, 2025 · Updated Aug 4, 2025
UI misrepresentation in JHipster before 8.9.0 allows local users to expose a non-functional admin menu by altering an account response. The generated client trusts the authorities value returned by /api/account when deciding which navigation elements to render, so changing ROLE_USER to ROLE_ADMIN only changes the browser-visible interface. JHipster states that backend authorization remains enforced, no administrative operation becomes available, and the original escalation claim is invalid.
