CVE-2025-43596

SYSTEM command execution via crafted backup target

Published May 22, 2025 · Updated May 22, 2025

Local privilege escalation in MSP360 Backup 8.0 for Windows allows local users to execute commands with SYSTEM privileges. The Windows Backup Agent accepts a specially crafted file as an arbitrary file-backup target under insecure filesystem permissions, causing privileged processing to execute attacker-supplied commands. A low-privileged local account able to modify backup configuration is required; successful exploitation grants full control of the endpoint.
