Restricted Web API access via file URL
Published Dec 17, 2025 · Updated Dec 17, 2025
URL validation failure in Apple Safari and macOS before 26.2 allows attackers to access restricted Web APIs through file URLs. Safari fails to validate a file URL before granting its web content access to Web APIs that Lockdown Mode should block. Exploitation requires a Mac with Lockdown Mode enabled and web content opened from a file URL; Apple has not identified the restricted APIs or resulting data or actions.
