Unauthenticated account takeover via stripped reset hash
Published May 20, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Unverified password change in StylemixThemes Motors 5.6.67 and earlier allows remote attackers to take over arbitrary WordPress accounts. The password-recovery.php template checks a raw hash for nonemptiness, then esc_attr strips invalid UTF-8 so an empty stored hash compares equal and wp_set_password runs. Exploitation requires a target account with no active reset hash; an administrator account grants control of the WordPress site.
