Camera and microphone access without privacy indicators
Published Jul 29, 2025 · Updated Apr 2, 2026
Privacy indicator failure in Apple iOS and iPadOS allows local users to access a camera or microphone without a correct on-screen alert. The Accessibility component fails to display the camera or microphone privacy indicator correctly, but Apple has not disclosed the faulty operation beyond stating that additional logic was required. Local execution with no privileges or user interaction is sufficient; affected releases are before 18.6, plus iPadOS before 17.7.9, and the documented consequence is loss of the visual privacy cue.
