Remote code execution via oversized BELL argument
Published May 1, 2025 · Updated May 2, 2025
Buffer overflow in PCMan FTP Server 2.0.7 allows remote attackers to execute code by sending a crafted BELL command over FTP. The BELL handler accepts a 2,006-byte-overflowing argument that replaces the saved return address with an attacker-chosen jump target. Anonymous FTP login reaches the handler, and successful exploitation runs supplied code in the server process; malformed probes can instead crash the service.
