Root access via timestamp-seeded debug password
Published Nov 10, 2025 · Updated Nov 10, 2025
Weak password generation in JUMO variTRON firmware before 9.0.2.5 allows local users to gain root access through the debug interface. The generator seeds its PRNG with the current Unix timestamp, making the debug password predictable to an attacker who knows its creation timeframe. Exploitation requires an authorized user to enable the debug interface; it exposes root access over UART and SSH only until the next reboot.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
