Root code execution via reused temporary script directory
Published Jun 3, 2026 · Updated Jun 3, 2026
TOCTOU in SWUpdate before 2026.05 allows local users to execute untrusted update scripts as root through a signed update. SWUpdate reuses an attacker-created /tmp/scripts directory, hashes each extracted script, then executes it later without rechecking after replacement. A low-privilege shell user must win the gap between integrity verification and execution; success grants root code execution and update-file tampering.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
